About the Thornbury Centre
The Thornbury Centre first opened in 1999, following the demolition of St Margaret’s parish church due to structural issues. Rather than rebuilding a traditional church, the congregation at the time, had a vision to create a community centre that would also be home to the parish church. The aim was to provide modern, high-quality facilities for local people, guided by a founding principle of bringing together people of all backgrounds.
During and following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre experienced a period of uncertainty and even faced the possibility of closure. In 2025, with the appointment of a new Priest-in-Charge of St Margaret’s, the Revd Calum Burke, who brings experience in interfaith relations and community organising, the Thornbury Centre Charity was established to oversee the Centre and renew its vision as a thriving hub for the whole community.
We are delighted to steward and sustain this vital and much-loved community space, on behalf of, with, and for the people of Thornbury, Bradford Moor, and beyond.
Revd Calum Burke
Priest-in-Charge of St Margaret’s
Revd Calum is originally from London, where he worked on a variety of interfaith community projects both in the UK and abroad. He has since lived in the West Midlands, Cambridge, and now West Yorkshire. He has a particular interest in Christian–Muslim relations, especially how Christians and Muslims can work together for the flourishing of their communities.
